The Terracotta Army of China

In March 1974, some peasant farmers, whilst digging for water in the Shaanxi province of China, discovered some life-sized figures buried in the ground. Archaeologists subsequently investigated and found a huge army of figures made from terracotta buried near the burial mound of China's first Emperor. They include warriors of various ranks, horses, chariots and even animals, entertainers and administrators. Considered to be the most important archaeological find of recent times, the site near Xi'an is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area is still undergoing excavation and it is expected that work will continue for many more years to come. For more information, please see links below.
